CHARCOAL AND WOOD VINEGAR

Tadi abis ikut kuliah umum di audit faperta unsoed pembicaranya dari  Jepang namanya Yosei OIKAWA, Ph.D.  Isinya sangat bagus yaitu tentang aplikasi arang untuk pertanian tapi materinya in english. Ini adalah sedikit materi yg berhasil aku tulis.. maaf y pak Yosei sedikit ngutip nih materinya heee…

Charcoal and Its Application
  / Charcoal is
  • A black porous carbon made from biomass (as from wood by charring in akiln from which oxygen is excluded).
  • Porosity of charcoal provides various applications in agricultural and environmental sectors
  •  Alkali          Neutralizing 3Acid

Various Fungctions of choarcoal:
  •  Non-smoke fuel
  • Improve soil fertility
          reduce fertilizer input and cost
  •    Adjust/regulate moisture indors
  •     Adsorbs bad smell
  • Reduce diarrhea of pig, chiken, et
  • Purify muddy water

Wood Vinegar (Pyroligneous acid)
·         Byproduct from charcoal kilns: Liquid extracted from smoke (85 to 130oC)
Useful for pest management, crop growth (especially roots), animal health, etc.
Need to remove tar

Agro-wastes:
• Rice husk
• Sawdust
• Branches pruned
• Bark
• Fallen leaves
• Corn cob, peanut shell, coconut shell
              Alternative source of charcoal
• (Bone, shell, eggshell for organic fertilizer)

Charcoal Aplication in TUAT farm (2004)
Reduce 50% of chemical fertilizer for growing upland rice by scattering bamboo-charcoal powder (200g/meter)

Four steps of agricultural extension:
1.      Demonstrate to attract farmers
2.      Provide opportunities to have experience
3.      Provide training workshop to understand principels abd theoris
4.      Support their self problem.
